Sometimes it is hard for teenagers to talk to their parents because they don’t understand. But here are four tips that may help.

1. Find a time to talk when your parents are not doing something else, like dishes, working in the office, talking on the phone, putting other kids to bed, etc. If not, their mind will be elsewhere and they will either get angry or not give you their attention.

2. Ask to set a time to speak with your parents. “Dad, I want to talk to you about something. When would be a good time for us to talk?” They will be excited that you have grown up.

3. Make plans. Let’s start with what the problems are. Put them on a piece of paper. Now deal with them by yourself. What would you do if you were the parent? Have you done anything that caused them to say no? Did you break a rule? Did you break their trust (信任)?

For example, you came home at 11:00, but you were supposed to be home at 9:00. Then, find out a way to earn that trust back.

4. Start with a statement. Calmly, open your meeting with, “You told me I can’t go to parties on Friday night.” This statement explains the problem you want to talk with them! Don’t say other things.

A. nervous   B. successful

C. surprised  D. excited

B. You’d better set a time to talk with your parents.

My school life was wonderful even though I was born with a problem in my back. It meant I needed help when I wanted to move.

My friends helped me. We played games when we didn’t have classes. I took part in as many competitions as I could, including story writing, painting, drawing and other activities like my classmates’ birthday parties.

Both of my English teachers were very nice. One was tall, and the moment she went into the classroom we would all sit quietly and open our books. She encouraged me by giving me extra homework and the morning news in English to read. The other teacher, short but pretty, would come and listen to my English singing. People often invited me to sing at their parties. My maths, biology and home science teachers were also very kind to me. They would always give me extra information for our projects. I felt very proud (自豪的) every time I answered  the questions quickly and correctly (正确地).
