Step I Lead-in

Use real toys to introduce ball, doll and kite. Describe the toys to the class. For example:

T: This is my daughter’s favorite doll. Her name is Grace. She has blond hair. She is wearing a pink dress…….

Do actions to teach the phrases play catch, play with a doll and fly kites.

Step II Discussion

Show the pictures (Page 67, Part 1) on the screen. Discuss with Ss.

T: What are they doing?

Ss: (Picture 1) They are playing catch with Li Ming’s ball.

(Picture 2) They are flying kites.

(Picture 3) Danny and Li Ming are reading books.

Jenny is playing with her doll.

Ss talk about it in pairs.

S1: Look at Picture 1. What are they doing?

S2: They are playing catch with Li Ming’s ball.

S1: Look at Picture 2. ……

Step III Presentation

Use the pictures on the screen.

T: They like to play catch with Li Ming’s ball.

They like to fly kites.

Danny and Li Ming like to read books.

Jenny likes to play with her doll.

So what do you like to do? (Write it on the Bb. Help Ss to answer with “I like to …”)

S1: I like to go to the zoo to watch animals.

T: What does she like to do, S2? (Point to S1)

S2: She likes to …

Show some other pictures on the Bb.

S1: What do they like to do?

S2: They like to …

S1: What does he like to do?

S2: He likes to …

Step IV Game

Sentence dragon

T: We will play a game named sentence dragon. First I will give every one of you three cards. On each card, write one of the following:

1. Who

2. Verb phrases of help, have, want, go to school and fly a kite (write only one of them)

3. Where

Then collect the cards into three groups. Let each student choose one card from each group to make new sentences with “…like / likes to …”

For example, a student gets the following:

Danny, eat donuts, on the bus

The sentence will be: Danny likes to eat donuts on the bus.

Step V Homework

Exercises:

Complete the passages.

Step II Presentation

Use a real clock or a paper clock.

T: What time is it? (In another way, you can say “What’s the time?”. Write them on the Bb and help Ss to answer with “It is …”.)

Ss: It’s 8:00.

T: What time is it? (Change the time.)

Ss: It’s …

Step III Listening

Ss close their books and listen to L55, then think about the following Qs before listening to the tape:

1. What time is it?

2. When is breakfast?

3. When is school?

4. When is lunch?

5. What’s Li Ming’s favorite subject? (Explain it to the whole class.)

6. When is his English lesson?

7. When does he go home?

8. When is supper?

Ss can listen to the dialogue twice. They can write the key words according to the Qs while listening.
